2. About the Refuge

The Refuge is just that. . . a safe haven, a shelter, a sanctuary from the difficulties of this world.  It is a place where anyone can come and find love and acceptance.  It is a place you can come and be yourself.  You will find many people have been through the same things you have.  You are not alone.

It is not a place that will “tickle your ears”, tell you what you want to hear, or water down the truth.  At the Refuge you can expect that there will be no pulling punches or polluting the truth.

At The Refuge we know that we are all sinners in God’s eyes.  We are not any better than anyone else.  No one can earn right standing with God by anything they do.  Fortunately for us, Jesus paid for all of our sins and it is through Him that we can be right with God.

We are not about religion, a list of rules that you must follow to be right with God.  Jesus hated religion.  He came to give you a relationship with him.  At the Refuge we want to show you how to get this relationship.  Everything we do is about relationships, including our five guiding principles:

CONNECTING

We want to help young adults connect with God through building relationships and meeting needs in the community.  We believe that people want to see “proof before truth”.  We desire to show the love of Jesus to the community through our service.  (Matthew 5:16)

ENCOUNTERING

We help people to encounter God through worship, prayer, and digesting and internalizing His word, the bible.  (John 17:3)

SHARING

We are a community that loves and supports each other.  We share lives with each other, celebrating in each other’s victories and bearing each other’s burdens.  (Acts 2:41-47, Romans 12:15)

EQUIPPING

We strive to arm and equip warriors for Christ to be launched out and used by God to spread the Good News.  We focus on growing indigenous leaders to start multiple Refuge small groups.  We also train up missionaries to take the Gospel globally.

IMPACTING

We believe God will create a Christ-centered culture in this community.  It is the goal of this ministry to be used by Him to impact the area and create a culture within the culture that is a “city on the hill that cannot be hidden”.  (Matthew 5:14, Romans 12:2)

“Let what we do in here fill the streets out there!”

What We Believe:

·        We believe the Bible is God’s completely true record of His work to bring mankind to Himself

·        We believe Jesus is the eternal Son of God who paid the price for our sins through suffering and death

·        We believe Jesus was resurrected from the dead, proving His identity and ability to conquer death and hell

·        We believe in the Holy Trinity, God revealed in three persons Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

·        We believe that salvation is a relationship with God made possible by Jesus Christ

·        We believe the true church is not a religious organization, but Christ’s body through which He acts and speaks, calling people to Himself

·        We believe that Jesus Christ will return to the earth someday in radiant glory to judge evil and bring it to an end

·        We believe human beings have immortal, eternal souls that will exist with God forever (heaven) or be separated from God forever (hell)
